DANGER: CARBON MONOXIDE
Every year, unintentional carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning sends 20,000 people to the emergency room. CO is often called “the invisible killer” because it’s odorless and colorless. Here are 5 ways to protect your home:
- Install and test CO detectors: Place them outside each sleeping area and on every level of the home.
- Don’t create risk: Never operate grills or generators inside or near enclosed spaces.
- Be careful in your car: Move your car out of the garage immediately after starting it.
- Watch out for snow: Keep vents, chimneys, and exhaust pipes clear of ice and snow buildup.
- Know the symptoms: Headache, dizziness, and nausea are common early signs. Move outside immediately if suspected.
